Dr. Susana Ibarra Johnson, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of Bilingual Education/TESOL at New Mexico State University. Her commitment to improving the education of bilingual students is evident in her diverse and extensive experience. She has served in various roles, including as a professional development specialist, associate researcher for WIDA, director of bilingual multicultural education programs at Bernalillo Public Schools, district biliteracy specialist for Albuquerque Public Schools, and a bilingual education teacher in California, Texas, and New Mexico public schools. However, it is her research that truly stands out. Her work focuses on how translanguaging reshapes traditional conceptualizations of biliteracy with the implementation of translanguaging pedagogy in bilingual education and English language development contexts. This research is not just academic; it has the potential to significantly improve the education of emergent bilingual students.
